Childhood Obesity “One of the most serious public health challenges of the 21st century.” 1

There are numerous advantages of enrolling in the State Swim Program. As a swimming school we operate under the banner of health and fitness and with this is mind we are constantly trying to promote the health benefits of swimming. Below are some alarming statistics:

  • According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, levels of childhood obesity around the world have been rising due to an increase in foods, which are high in fat, and sugars and a reduction in the amount of time children spend on physical activity. 

We need to keep our children moving and reduce their ‘screen’ time. Swimming is a great way to do this. Our program runs all year round, and offers children a warm, safe environment to learn to swim or to swim for health and fitness, in either our squad or fitness programs. Swimming is also great for asthmatics and is a great form of exercise to complement other sports or for rehabilitation from injury.

By promoting an active lifestyle through swimming we can help reduce the risk of our children developing long-term health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

Swimming is a skill they will value for life.
