Waterbabies Programs

Recommended age 6 months - 2.5 years

Max 8 pupils per class / Duration 30 minutes

The State Swim Waterbabies program is the ideal opportunity for your baby to learn to swim and become familiar with the aquatic environment. Our baby swimming lessons focus on fun water-based activities and catchy rhymes so you and baby can strengthen your bond and learn essential water survival skills together.

State Swim's water familiarisation programs (sometimes referred to as “baby swimming lessons”) cover skills such as submerging, floating and moving through water. Suitable for almost all ages, our Waterbabies 1 class caters for younger babies aged 6 months to 18 months, while our Waterbabies 2 toddler swimming lessons cater for ages 19 months to 30 months. If your child is older than 2.5 years, be sure to have a look at our Kindergarten swimming lesson program.

There are many advantages to taking part in baby swimming lessons from an early age as a precursor to learning to swim; some of the mental and physical benefits of swimming lessons and water familiarisation lessons for babies include:

  • Familiarity and confidence with water;
  • The development of gross motor skills;
  • Instilling a love of exercise into your child;
  • A way to bond with your baby or toddler;
  • A way for parents and babies to socialise and make friends!

Being a part of our Swim and Play programs are an excellent start to teaching babies the skills required to become strong, safe and confident around or in the water. However, it is still necessary for parents to be vigilant with their children when they are in or around water, including in backyard swimming pools, at the beach or during other water-based activities.
